Woman allegedly confesses to starting deadly fire at La Porte home

LA PORTE, Texas – A woman has been charged with murder after she allegedly confessed to starting a fire at a home which resulted in the death of another woman in La Porte.

Sarah Leanne Flores is charged with murder and arson in connection to the fire, which led to the death of Connie Fortune, whom Flores shared a home with.

The fire happened Monday at approximately 6:50 a.m. in the 300 block of S. Virginia Street. Fire crews and other first responders learned someone was believed to be trapped inside the home. Firefighters arrived and found heavy fire and smoke coming from the home.

They tried to rescue Fortune but were unable to get her out.

The La Porte Fire Marshal’s Office as well as the La Porte Police Department began an investigation into the fire. Police said they were provided with witness information regarding a possible suspect and motive for the fire being started. This resulted in the murder charge being accepted against Flores by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

A mugshot of Flores was not immediately available at the time of this writing.
