Update: The City of Houston fixed Johnny’s water leak after 7 months

Not only is water spilled in front of his driveway, but it’s all over his yard and sidewalk. All from a water main that burst back in August and has left water bubbling up in his yard ever since.

“It’s depressing. You call people and they don’t check it out or nothing,” Johnny Sutton told KPRC 2 reporter Corley Peel.

Sutton can’t mow his grass and he can’t get rid of all the bugs the water’s attracting. The pooling water in his yard is constant and runs off into the street. He has to jump across the water to get from the street to his driveway.

“It’s like a swamp. Getting wetter every day. Getting closer to my house.”

Sutton says he’s reported the issue to the city several times, and they’ve come out twice, but only took pictures.

“I call them, I call them. My neighbors call. My friends call... Last week I told them, ‘do I need to get in touch with Channel 2?’”

If the leak isn’t fixed soon, Sutton’s afraid his home will be damaged.

His request is simple: “Fix my water line.”

After Corley reached out to the city, Public Works officials said crews should have the water leak fixed by Monday. Officials said the reason it took so long to fix is because the work order that was originally created was incorrect. They are working to find out how that happened.

According to Houston’s 311 data, As of Thursday, there are currently more than 15 hundred active water leaks reported throughout the city. That is around the same amount as last summer, when the city was plagued by broken water pipes during a drought. The city even hired outside contractors to help public works crews to make repairs.

We’ll stay on top of this for you and for Sutton, and let you know when it’s fixed.
