AUSTIN, Texas – Another lawsuit has emerged from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton against pornography companies he alleges violate HB 1181, which requires age verification.

Based on a press release from the AG’s office, the suit claims requiring age verification protects young children from being exposed to “harmful obscene material.” The companies in this case are Multi Media, LLC and Hammy Media, which operate sites such as “Chaturbate” and “xHamster.”
This suit comes a week after PornHub disabled its website in the Lone Star State, detailing how the law is more reactive than proactive, saying in part: “as we’ve seen in other states, such bills have failed to protect minors, by driving users from those few websites which comply, to the thousands of websites, with far fewer safety measures in place, which do not comply.”
Paxton took to social media that day to celebrate the victory saying, “in Texas, companies cannot get away with showing porn to children. If they don’t want to comply, good riddance.”

The AG doubled down on his comments in the press release saying he will continue to crack down on other pornography sites for not abiding by the law.
“I will continue to aggressively enforce HB 1181,” he said. “All pornography companies lacking proper age verification safeguards on their sites should consider themselves on notice because they’re violating Texas law.”
