Reports indicate that the man failed to cooperate with police and was located inside an enclosed back porch. According to investigators, police backed off the situation and called for backup and the Houston Fire Department due to the agitated state of the man.

The man fought and wrestled with officers, and he was eventually tased by police. According to investigators, the man became unresponsive about a minute after being taken into custody. Police said he was tased only once but didn’t say for how long. Police believe long-term narcotic use may have contributed to the man’s death.

The man was treated for 15-20 minutes at the scene before being transferred to Southeast Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
