HOUSTON – A lot of people are getting springtime illnesses right now and hardly any of it is flu or COVID-19 anymore.

In addition to springtime seasonal allergies, people are suffering complications from that like hay fever, and skin rashes. Some are also feeling even worse with lots of upper respiratory infections across the area.

Here’s a list of doctors/specialists in and around the Houston area I consulted to get a look at what common illnesses they’re seeing:
PEARLAND, LEAGUE CITY AND PASADENA
“In Pearland, I am currently seeing an increase in upper respiratory symptoms that present with flu-like symptoms,” says MinuteClinic nurse practitioner Margaret Wooten. “Many patients’ complaints are fatigue fever, body aches chills, sore throat cough, and nasal congestion,” she continued. “COVID and flu screenings are negative at the time of the visit; some of the patients return to the clinic with complaints of symptoms persisting or getting worse.”
“In League City, we are seeing an increase in patients presenting with symptoms of seasonal allergies and Upper respiratory Infections, says MinuteClinic nurse practitioner Rashmin Kadiwal. “However, we are still seeing a few cases of Flu B and Strep Throat in children and young adults.”
“A lot of seasonal allergies and mosquito/bug bites with some strep and viral upper respiratory infections and stomach virus,” adds Dr. Tara Ramsay, Pediatrician at Kelsey-Seybold Pasadena Clinic.
WEST UNIVERSITY
“Seeing a lot of allergic conjunctivitis, still some flu, and strep,” says Dr. Kailey Graybill, Pediatrician at Kelsey-Seybold West University Clinic.
FORT BEND
“Quite a few cases of hand foot and mouth disease along with some cases of flu still,” says Dr. Jessica Lanerie, Pediatrician for Kelsey-Seybold Sienna Clinic
“Mostly upper respiratory tract infection (“common cold”) and allergic rhinitis,” adds Dr. Phong Van-Liaw - Pediatrician - Kelsey-Seybold Fort Bend Medical and Diagnostic Center. “Also have had several cases this past week of strep throat, hand-foot-mouth, and eczema coxsackium.”
HUMBLE, SPRING AND CONROE
“Multiple unrelated cases of scarlatina,” says Dr. Laurie McKillip, Pediatrician at Kelsey-Seybold Conroe Clinic
“In Humble currently, most patients are presenting with Upper Respiratory Infection symptoms or Allergic Rhinitis symptoms,” says MinuteClinic regional quality lead Serena Lopez.
“In late spring and early summer, we see a lot of hand foot, and mouth disease and we still have some cases of flu as well,” adds Dr. Sara Rizvi, Pediatrician at Kelsey-Seybold Springwoods Village Campus. “Other viral illnesses-typically adenovirus, and enterovirus, which can cause a range of symptoms from colds to GI symptoms also a few cases of parvovirus.”
