"The Butterfly Project" is a global effort to collect 1.5 million handmade butterflies to commemorate the number of children who perished in the Holocaust.
"This project has served as a learning moment for thousands and thousands of students," said Dr. Kelly J. Zuniga, executive director of the Museum. "The butterflies were hung in front of many classrooms with such beauty, such hope, only to be cut down for no reason."
Beginning on March 11, several display cases of the butterflies will be at Neiman Marcus in the Galleria before traveling to various venues around the area. That display and a similar one at the Holocaust Museum Houston are on view through July 31.
