HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Firefighters said high wind was a factor in a fire that destroyed a home and killed two dogs in northeast Harris County.
The Westfield Volunteer Fire Department was called around 2 a.m. to a home in the 4800 block of Hollybrook for reports of a fire.
The homeowner was watching television when he smelled smoke and woke up his wife and 16-year-old, Aldine Chief Joe Leggett said.
The family went to the front door and saw the garage on fire, Leggett said.

By the time firefighters arrived the house was engulfed in flames. Fighting the flames was made more difficult by high winds. It took firefighters about 40 minutes to extinguish the fire, officials said.
All residents in the home made it out safely before emergency crews arrived.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
