26 foster children find forever homes as Montgomery County celebrates 'National Adoption Day'

CONROE, Texas – Since 2005, more than 300 kids in Montgomery County have been adopted as a part of National Adoption Day, which was celebrated in the county on Wednesday.

The “holiday” itself began in 2000 when a number of national groups came together to further the message of adoption.

“National Adoption Day started as a means to create awareness that we had so many children in foster care that we needed to get them out of the system,” said Terri Jaggers, president and state director of Orphan Care Solutions. “It's time for greater Houston to step up. If not us, who? And if not now, when?”

Wednesday’s festivities kicked off a bit before noon with live music on the steps of the Montgomery County Courthouse.

After a brief presentation, Santa led the foster kids and their soon-to-be families inside where a judge began making adoptions official.
