Amazon Prime Now delivery driver robbed at gunpoint

HOUSTON – An Amazon Prime Now delivery driver became a crime victim Sunday night, just across the street from his customer's house.

It happened just after 11 p.m. in the Maplewood South subdivision in Southwest Houston.

Video, recorded by the customer's Ring doorbell camera, shows the driver head back to his car after dropping off the package. He is then heard yelling at someone. The recording shows four people get out of one car and walk to the driver's vehicle.

The driver told investigators with the Harris County Precinct 5 Constable's Office the suspects were teenage boys and one of them pointed a shotgun at him.

The customer, who did not want to be identified, was surprised when she heard a knock at her door.

"I assumed that there had been some confusion about the delivery since he had just been at my doorstep," Jennifer said.

But it turned out to be something much more serious.

"He said, 'I'm your driver and I've been robbed,'" the customer said.

The driver said the teens took his keys, his wallet and his cellphone.

The driver was not able to give a detailed description of the suspects. They drove away in a dark-colored car.

A spokesperson for Amazon said in a statement,

“Safety is our top priority and we are grateful the delivery partner is safe. These types of incidents are rare and when they do occur we work with law enforcement to bring the assailants to justice,” Ernesto Apreza said.
