HPD: Drunk driver charged in Christmas Eve crash that killed woman

HOUSTON – Charges have been filed against a man who caused a traffic accident on Christmas Eve, resulting in the death of woman, according to Houston police.

Raul Saenz III, 31, is charged with two counts of intoxicated assault.

Police say Saenz was driving a silver Chevrolet Aveo at a high rate of speed northbound on Helmers and ran the red light at East Crosstimbers around 6:20 a.m.  His vehicle struck a gold Ford van traveling west on Crosstimbers.  

Passengers in the Chevrolet were ejected.  One of them, a 47-year-old woman, was pronounced dead the following day at an area hospital.  

Two people in the van were transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.  

Saenz was determined to be intoxicated.  He was taken into custody and subsequently charged.
