Authorities investigate officer-involved shooting in NW Harris County

Houston police, Harris County Sheriff's Office respond to shooting

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Three men were arrested for allegedly robbing a meat market and exchanging gunfire with an undercover Houston police officer in northwest Harris County.

"It was chaos. It's ridiculous and I've never seen something like this in my life," Robert Kevas said.

Kevas was in the parking lot on Hwy. 6 and Timber Creek Place Lane when someone started shooting.

"I was over here minding my own business, selling our Valentine's Day baskets and out of nowhere, I just hear gunshots like if he was shooting up in the air," Kevas said.

Kevas took his family into a nearby restaurant for cover.

"People were taking their families away from the window and going to where the wall was at because that was the only safe place," he said.

Investigators said two robbers walked into the nearby meat market with guns at about 5 p.m. Saturday and demanded cash.

"An HPD officer was in the parking lot surveilling the business, and the business was open at the time. There was an exchange of gunfire and the suspects did get into a vehicle," said Lt. Joe Ambriz of the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

The men got away in a red pickup truck with another man behind the wheel, but officers caught them nearby.

"I was shaking in my boots. It was just very scary," Kevas said.

None of the alleged robbers were shot. One was injured and taken to the hospital. It's unclear what injures he suffered.

The officer was not hurt.
