HOUSTON – What started as a search for a chase suspect, ended with the recovery of a body along Buffalo Bayou of someone entirely different.
Lt. Humberto Lopez with the Houston Police Department said the body was found with "no obvious signs of any kind of injuries or anything like that."
Investigators say the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable's office was initially searching for a man who jumped into the bayou after bailing out of his car following a chase Wednesday night.
Crews searched the banks and a dive team was even called out, but he was never found.
Alan Rosen, the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable explained, "Of course, (with) last night's rain event and wind, there was a lot of turbulence in the water so we felt pretty certain that he would have been pretty far away."
Then Thursday, crews were back out on the water and Precinct 1's environmental unit made the discovery of another man's body.
Houston police are now the lead agency of that discovery and believe it's likely a man they had been searching for in a missing person case.
"We believe that we know who the person is. But since the family doesn't know who he is, we're going to wait until the family is notified," Lopez said.
