GARLAND, Texas – A man has been arrested after he led police on a chase that ended with an officer deploying a Taser on him in the middle of a busy highway in Garland, police say.
Around 2:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to a Kohl's in the 3300 block of North George Bush Highway due to two men stealing from the store. Store employees identified the men from a bulletin sent internally from other stores where the two men had stolen several thousand dollars worth of merchandise, according to reports.
Clinton Tyron Lang Jr., 38, was sitting in a truck outside the store, and when officers attempted to stop him, he started a chase.
Several agencies in North Texas were involved in the chase after police said Lang started driving the wrong way on the President George Bush Tollway.
According to KXAS, Rowlett and Garland officers were the first agencies on the chase, but they backed off when it became too dangerous.
Helicopter video showed Lang pulling over, getting out and running onto Interstate 30 westbound, dodging traffic. An officer used a Taser on him after he jumped the median.
Police stopped traffic and arrested Lang, who was charged with evading arrest in a vehicle, theft &50-$2,500 and two felony theft warrants out of Dallas County.
Jimmy Orlando Wheeler, 49, was captured near the Kohl's. He is facing a theft charge with two or more convictions less that $2,500.
