HOUSTON – Retired Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson was honored Tuesday by the Houston City Council when they proclaimed a day in his honor.
Johnson, who spent 10 years with the Texans, beamed as he was presented with the proclamation.
“I see that, now, I was able to touch a lot of people,” Johnson said.

His mother and uncle, who Johnson credited for his success, said they could not be prouder.
“Thank you, to the city, for embracing my son,” Johnson’s mother said.
After the presentation, Johnson posed for photos with councilmembers and even signed a jersey owned by one of them.
Tuesday's event was just one of a week full of celebration for the record-setting receiver.

During Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals, Houston football legend and fan favorite Andre Johnson will be the first Texans player to be inducted into the Ring of Honor at NRG Stadium. It's an honor SO BIG that the city and the Texans will be celebrating all week long.
TUESDAY AFTERNOON
The city of Houston will present Johnson with a proclamation to make Nov. 19 Andre Johnson Day. The proclamation will be presented to Johnson at 1 p.m. at City Hall.
TUESDAY EVENING
A retirement party will be held in Johnson's honor. Children from the Houston Texans YMCA will serve as hosts for the gathering at Bowlmor Lanes at 6 p.m. Texans players will also be there, along with TORO, Texans cheerleaders and ambassador Chester Pitts.
THURSDAY
An autograph-signing experience will be held at NRG Stadium at 4:30 p.m. In partnership with Palais Royal, 80 lucky winners will be selected to meet Johnson. Guests should line up in the South Administration lobby.

SUNDAY
Johnson will be the first Texans player in history inducted into the newly created Ring of Honor. The ceremony will take place during halftime of the Texans-Cardinals game at NRG Stadium.
Johnson signed a one-day contract on April 19 so he could retire as a member of the Texans, a team he was a part of for 12 seasons. Johnson earned seven Pro Bowl berths with Houston and remains the team's all-time leader in receptions (1,012), receiving yards (13,597) and receiving touchdowns (64).
