SAN ANTONIO – The Houston Police Honor Guard, Harris County deputies, friends, family, the police community and dignitaries will crowd Community Bible Church Friday to pay their final respects to fallen Officer Miguel Moreno, of the San Antonio Police Department.
The men and women of Houston and Harris County law enforcement agencies left for San Antonio early Friday morning to pay respects to a fellow officer.

"That's why we're going this morning, to try to convey to family in San Antonio to the whole nation we are all in this together, the citizens and police alike, we want to show respect to this man, the city of San Antonio and to the state," said Houston Police Sgt. J.R. Armstrong.
Moreno, 32, and his partner, Officer Julio Cavazos, were shot June 29 while investigating vehicle burglaries.
The officers approached two men in the 200 block of West Evergreen Street. When the nine-year police veterans got out of their cruiser, they were immediately fired upon by 34-year-old Andrew Bice, SAPD Chief William McManus said.

Moreno was wounded in the head. He died the next day at San Antonio Military Medical Center.
Cavazos, 36, was shot in the chin. Despite being wounded, he was able to drag Moreno to the front of the vehicle away from the line of fire and shoot Bice in the buttocks, McManus said. Cavazos was released from SAMCC on Tuesday.

Bice turned the gun on himself and died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office said. The man who was with Bice during the shootout, 30-year-old William Lawson, was arrested Saturday.

Moreno was a 2002 graduate of Lanier High School and attended the University of Texas in Austin, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history.
Cavazos and Moreno were assigned to the Central Substation and worked Central Patrol B Shift.
Moreno leaves behind his parents and three sisters, and a brother who is also a San Antonio police officer.

The Rev. Manuel Ortiz Jr., of Primera Iglesia Bautista Fundamental Mexicana, officiated the funeral.
Gov. Greg Abbott, Mayor Ron Nirenberg, Police Chief William McManus and Officers Joshua Flanagan and Arturo Moreno spoke at the funeral.
A private burial followed the funeral.
