Surveillance video released after father shot to death during attempted carjacking

HOUSTON – Surveillance video was released Tuesday, three days after a father was shot to death by two men during an attempted carjacking in north Harris County.

Family members identified him as Pedro Aguilar, a 47-year-old hardworking mechanic.

"The best person, my inspiration, my everything," said Aguilar's son about his father.

Aguilar, his wife, Ana, and their 10-year-old daughter were coming back from dinner. They pulled up to their apartment complex at the Greenbriar Park North apartments at 818 Richcrest Drive at 11 p.m. Saturday.

The mother and daughter got out of the car and began walking into their apartment while Aguilar parked the car, officials said.

While he was parking the car, two men, both said to be in their late teens to early 20s, pulled their vehicle up next to Aguilar, deputies said.

The suspects pulled Aguilar out of his car, pistol-whipped him and then shot him, according to authorities. He died at the scene.

"He always was happy. He say, 'I want the best for you.' 'It's difficult," said Aguilar's son.

"The suspects were unable to drive Mr. Aguilar's car because it's a standard shift," said Sgt. Beall, with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "They fled the scene on foot."

The two men then jumped in a getaway car that was being driven by a third suspect.

"It's so hard. It's a difficult situation," Aguilar's son said.

Aguilar's son, who wants to keep his identity hidden, is just seeing the surveillance video.

He's hoping it'll ultimately help catch his dad's killers.

"It's amazing because the two guys never think about my father," Aguilar's son said. "The only thing I can say is, 'I want justice,'" said Aguilar's son.

If anyone has any information regarding this killing, they are asked to contact the Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100, or call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS(8477).
