According to the foundation, President George H.W. Bush played a supportive role when 14,000 Jews were evacuated from Ethiopia in the late 1980s. Again, they said he stepped up as a leader by providing assistance when Poland and Hungary became independent after the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989.
The foundation said they are honoring Barbara Bush as well because she has always been an anchor to her husband George.
The invite-only award ceremony will take place March 8 at 11:30 a.m.
