Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls will not run for Congress in 2018

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls will not run for Congress in 2018.

Nehls said he does not want to quit his job as the sheriff to take a job in Congress.

If he were to run for Congress, he would have to quit his job as sheriff, leaving his family with no income for about a year.

Nehls did set up an exploratory committee to look into the possibility of running, but made the decision against it.

Nehls did say he is considering running for Congress in 2020, when state law changes would allow elected officials to keep their current jobs while they run for another office.
