HOUSTON – A longtime precinct chairman for the Harris County Republican Party announced his resignation Tuesday. The resignation came as the party nominated Donald Trump as its Presidential candidate.
"How can you work with a guy like that?" said William Morris. "He's a racist, a liar."
For the past eight years, Morris has been the chairman for the Harris County Republican Party, precinct 597. Morris said he is a longtime conservative, but couldn't go along with his party's choice for president.
"He's not good for us. He's not good for this country. So why be part of that? That's why I got out of it," said Morris.
Morris said he was hoping for a change of heart at the convention. When that didn't happen, Morris sent his letter of resignation to the chairman of the Harris County Republican Party.
"Why resign? Why not continue working within the party?" asked KPRC's Robert Arnold.
"Well, I don't see the benefit of working in the party," said Morris.
KPRC reached out to officials with the Harris County Republican Party about Morris' resignation, but have not yet received a response.
