HOUSTON – Houston police are searching for a man who shot and killed a woman in the middle of a parking lot outside a shopping center in northwest Houston on Monday.
They say the man shot the woman outside of her car, drove the car across the street to a fast food restaurant, and then walked back to another car and drove away.
Ken Collins said he was sitting in a car with his girlfriend when they heard gunshots.
"We seen a lady laying on the ground," Collins said. "I guess he must've already shot her and he just walked up and shot her maybe two or three more times."
Other witnesses told Channel 2 that shortly after 7 p.m. Monday a man approached a woman in a parking lot in the 3300 block of Mangum Road and West 34th Street.
After he shot the woman several times they say he got in a blue Ford Taurus, drove it across the street to a fast food restaurant, then casually walked back to another car, a red Toyota Tercel, and drove off. That's around the time others got involved to help.
"She was in shock," witness Aaron Beavers said. "Her eyes were fluttering really bad. She was gasping for air."
Beavers, who heard the gunshots from across the street, said his training as a military police officer in the Air Force spurred him to run and help the victim who was critical shape.
"I took my shirt off and had another guy take his jacket off and we started applying pressure to gunshot wounds," he said. "Paramedics showed up about five minutes later and they took over the scene."
Paramedics transported the woman to Ben Taub Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
