Firefighters battled massive fire in SW Houston

HOUSTON – Firefighters battled a massive apartment fire in SW Houston at 5555 Gasmer Dr. 

According to HFD, 40 families have been displaced from their homes after a large fire swept over an apartment complex. 

Two people were injured during the fire, one of whom was a firefighter who suffered from heat exhaustion, and the other was a minor who reportedly had severe smoke inhalation, according to Houston Fire department. 

Arson is investigating the fire, according to HFD.

"Smoke can be harmful to individuals with compromised respiratory systems, and residents in the area should take steps to limit their exposure to smoke," according to HFD.

HFD is also asking residents to avoid the area to minimize traffic incidents.
