Man arrested, charged with murder in fatal shooting outside Fifth Ward convenience store

HOUSTON – A suspect was taken into custody Thursday, charged in a fatal shooting that left one person dead and another wounded.

The suspect, Delonnie Norman, 21, is charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He is accused of killing Maurice Cashman Tolbert, 30.

Investigators said the suspect fired shots at a group of people in front of a convenience store at 3800 Liberty Road about 9:50 p.m. on Sept. 10.

When officers responded to the shooting call at the location, they found Tolbert lying on the ground in front of the business. He had multiple gunshot wounds. When paramedics arrived on scene, they pronounced him dead.

Another victim suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and was transported to an area hospital.

Witnesses told police two suspects fled the scene in red Dodge Charger.

Further investigation identified Norman as a suspect in the fatal shooting. The second unidentified suspect remains at large.
