Man killed in 'edged weapon attack' found naked in SW Houston parking lot, police say

HOUSTON – A man was found naked and stabbed to death Monday in an apartment complex parking lot in southwest Houston.

The man, who family identified as Byiringiro Mupenzi, was found just before 2 a.m. at the Santa Clara Apartments in the 6100 block of Marinette Drive with stab wounds near his head and neck area, investigators said.

Police said they believe the 24-year-old was killed in an “edged weapon attack.”

Relatives said Mupenzi was a “good person” who supported his mother, sister and nephew.

“She can’t even speak, she’s so sad she can’t even speak,” said Kashima about their mother.

Mupenzi was from Congo and had been in the United States for four years, his family said.

“They said, ‘Help’ and (then there was) just quiet,” neighbor Manar Alquraaishi said. "I see the person down. I quickly told my father, and he called the police to come."

Investigators took pictures and collected evidence from Mupenzi's car, which was parked feet from his body.

“Either he was inside when he was injured or a door was opened and he was injured. We still have to determine that,” said Detective Hector Garcia.

“It’s sorrow time, we are so sad for the situation,” Mupenzi’s brother, Nganizi Kashima, said through a translator. “I know he was a friend for everybody so there’s not any reason why.”

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
