Meet the Houston twin brothers who created RTIC

CYPRESS, Texas – Have you ever heard of RTIC? The company sells a variety of products like coolers, tumblers and bottles.

It claims that its coolers are half the price and hold more ice compared to its competitor YETI. The company's  30-ounce tumbler is the No. 1 best seller on Amazon. So who are the people behind the brand?

RTIC is actually a Houston company. It’s based in Cypress and was started by twin brothers John and Jim Jacobsen. They attended Klein Oak High School and went to college at Sam Houston State University.

The brothers started by selling moving boxes. Cheap, Cheap Moving boxes is the largest direct-to-consumer retailer of moving boxes in the U.S. They also sell a bed in a box. They said their specialty is not boxes or tumblers or mattresses. It’s their ability to process big and bulky items and ship them to you.

RTIC has developed a very big following on Facebook without a lot of advertising. The company’s Facebook page generated 1.1 million “Likes”  in just over a year.

KPRC 2's Consumer Reporter Amy Davis tested the RTIC to see how it stacks up compared to other tumblers. Click here to watch her story.
