HOUSTON – A Harris County Precinct 6 deputy constable was injured Wednesday morning when his motorcycle collided with a truck in east Houston.
The deputy was on his way to work an approved, off-duty assignment as a motorcycle escort, when the accident happened in the 7600 block of Market Street near Wayside before 11 a.m.
According to the Houston Police Department, a silver truck cut off the deputy constable as the truck driver was making a left turn and the deputy was going straight. Surveillance video from a nearby auto shop shows the silver pickup then bump into a red SUV at the intersection.
In the surveillance video, immediately following the collision you can also see the motorcycle skid down the street a short distance.
"I was sitting at the light and the truck came out of nowhere," said Saul Barcenas, the driver of the SUV. "I saw the cop on the ground and he wasn't moving, so I was concerned for him."
The deputy was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was said to be alert and conscious during time of transport.
Officers with the Houston Police Department reported that the deputy has a broken arm.
The woman who was driving the truck was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
