KPRC 2's Dominique Sachse, Keith Garvin in Washington for inauguration

WASHINGTON – Dominique Sachse and Keith Garvin are in Washington, D.C., covering the inauguration of Donald Trump. Follow all of their coverage below.

By Dominique Sachse - Friday 2 p.m.

You could feel the energy of the day bright and early. Crowds were packing slick streets inching their way toward the Capitol building. I was walking in an opposite direction to get to my home away from home, NBC News. From here on a rooftop, the Capitol is at a distance. The closest I will get to this inauguration ceremony is my 16-inch monitor and a live stream. That's OK. It is my job to tell the story.

Takeaway one:  Seeing the Trumps emerge from Blair House, Melania decked out in ice blue from head to toe. It was a Jackie O. moment that took my breath away. I also liked the roaring applause Trump's children received as they stepped out on the stage before the inauguration. It's good to see support for the children, no matter the ideology.

I also enjoyed during the ceremony seeing officials from both political aisles sitting side-by-side listening to the same message, trying to read body language and wondering what they must be thinking.

Afterword, from my rooftop vantage point, I was able to see Marine One lift off carrying the Obamas to joint base Andrews. The noise from the chopper vibrated in my chest. It was a page turn, and also my turn to start working on telling the story for you.

Sadly, as of this update, there have been violent protests.  It was certainly something we hoped we wouldn't see. Time will tell and so will I as need be.

Watching President Obama make his last drive to the Capitol as POTUS and Donald Trump make his first trip in the moments before he is sworn in. I can only imagine what's going through each of their minds .

My last inauguration was 2009.  It was bitterly cold, jam-packed with people across the entire mall.

Today, it's not quite as cold and not as many people are here, although 800,000 to 1 million is a good crowd, but they are expecting rain.

Regardless of the conditions I consider it an honor to cover an inauguration, regardless of the party, regardless of the individual.

Our peaceful transition of political power is something so many nations just don't have and I think many of us take it for granted.

Two cups of coffee and the "Today Show" was enough to get me going.

Our first stop was Rep. John Culberson's office for his welcome reception.

He greeted us with open arms. Nothing like a Texan seeing a Texan in DC.

He gave us an interview and was over the moon to show us President Lyndon Johnson's chair that he purchased in an auction.

I sat down and felt the sudden need to delegate. So, I ordered my crew and I to head to the next room to enjoy the BBQ they were serving.

Digesting done in 60 seconds (welcome to TV news) and we were out the door to head back to our hotel and get dressed for the Texas Black Tie and Boots Gala.

Dressed to the nine's with my Lucchese boots on: What girl doesn't love an evening gown with flats? And then it's time to rub elbows with my fellow Texans again.

Lt. Governor Dan Patrick spoke with us as the crowds started filing in.

Now, I'm waiting to hear The Beach Boys, Gatlin Brothers, among others, and hopefully put these boots to good use on the dance floor for about a nanosecond, because that's all the time this cowgirl is gonna have to cut loose before the 10 p.m. news!

See you then!
