Search for escaped Galveston County Jail inmate ends in Madisonville

Dominic Potter

GALVESTON, Texas – After several days of searching, the Galveston County Sheriff's Office, along with multiple other agencies, were able to find an escaped inmate in Madisonville on Friday around noon, deputies said.

Deputies received a tip that Dominic Potter, 38, was seen near a Buc-ee's store around 3 a.m. Tuesday, and he was found near the store on Friday after police received reports of a white man on foot acting suspicious.

Porter was in jail on a charge of forgery of a government document along with other parole violation charges when he escaped around 7:30 p.m. Monday, according to police.

Authorities said Potter was a kitchen worker at the Galveston County Jail and is not considered a violent offender, making him eligible to work that type of shift.

Police said as he was throwing the trash away with another inmate while being escorted by a deputy, Potter took off out of a nearby gate that deputies were working to close after someone had just come through.

GCSA Chief Deputy Mary Johnson said, "The deputy turned to hit the button to make sure the guard shut the door and when he turned back around the inmate was running out the gate. Anytime someone leaves, of course, we are concerned. Of course, if anyone has information in reference to this we'd ask that they call the Sheriff's Office."
