Student who fell from 3rd floor of San Jacinto College building in ICU

HOUSTON – A male student fell from the third floor of a building at San Jacinto College South Campus Thursday, according to college officials.

The 17-year-old somehow made it over the balcony and railing, which is four feet tall, then fell 30 to 40 feet at the Allied Health and Science Building. 

The student, who was part of the Clear Horizon Early College program, suffered serious injuries, according to the college. According to San Jacinto College, the student is in the ICU at the hospital and his family is by his side. 

An investigation is underway.

SJC released a statement on its website that read in part, "San Jacinto College and Clear Creek ISD have deployed counselors for students and employees who may need their support. Students may contact the South Campus counseling center at 281-998-6150 ext. 3444. Employees are encouraged to use the Employee Assistance Program through the Human Resources Benefits department ... Finally, we ask for everyone's patience, understanding and compassion for our students and employees as we work through this incident.
