Uber driver accused of sexually assaulting customer

HOUSTON – An Uber driver is accused of sexually assaulting a customer in Houston. Police say Duncan Eric Burton raped a passenger.

According to the Houston Police Department, the victim, who was visiting from out of town and out with a group of friends at a bar in the Midtown area, was picked up by the driver.

Police said she was too drunk to tell the driver where she was staying, so he offered to take her to his home to sleep. That's when she alleges he raped her.

"I think he should not have taken her and have her friends and stuff like that, she should've gone with them back home. That is not right," says resident Lorin Baker.

The city of Houston says drivers are not allowed to refuse a ride to anyone unless they are in fear for their life. The city says drivers are to use their own discretion and possibly take the person who is intoxicated to a safe location and help them contact friends or family. A spokesperson for Uber says after being contacted about the story on Thursday from KPRC 2, Burton was immediately deactivated as a driver.

The suspect is in jail with no bond.
