Company releases statement to Channel 2 News regarding egg shortage

HOUSTON – After at least one Whataburger location reported it is out of eggs, we contacted the company to see if the egg shortage will affect breakfast in the Houston area.

They sent us a statement that reads:

We've been working hard to build up our egg supply and we're pleased to announce that Whataburger breakfast hours are back to 11pm-11am.  However, there is still an egg shortage and eggs will only be served between 5am – 11am.  We thank our customers for their patience.

Why is Whataburger only serving eggs during certain hours?

Most major U.S. egg producers have been affected by the recent outbreak of Avian Influenza and are experiencing product shortages. This is impacting restaurants and grocers across the country, including Whataburger. We're working to build up our supply so we're now able to go back to our regular breakfast hours of 11pm – 11am.  However, there is still an egg shortage and eggs will only be served between 5am-11am so we can concentrate the limited supply during peak breakfast hours.

When can I order breakfast?

Customers can order breakfast during our standard hours of 11pm – 11am, however items with eggs will only be served between 5-11am, while supplies last.

What is Whataburger doing to end the shortage?

We're exploring several options to add to our egg supply, including proactively engaging alternative egg suppliers. Replacing the supply we have lost will take some time, but it is important to us to provide the highest quality food to our customers. We will continue to experience some shortages while we work to increase the available supply.

How long will there be a limited egg supply?

We do not know how long it will take to fill the current gap in our supply, but we will do everything in our power to get eggs back into all of our restaurants as soon as possible.

Will you face a shortage of other products besides breakfast items?

We may periodically face shortages of other egg-based menu items, and will always inform customers of any shortage with clear signage at our restaurants. It's important to know this is a supply issue and is not a health safety issue, and menu items containing chicken or eggs continue to be safe to consume.
