Widow of cab driver shot to death speaks out after 2 charged with capital murder

HOUSTON – The pain of her loss is still raw, but Rita Enilolobo is speaking about her late husband because she wants the world to know what kind of man he was.

"He brought light to people's life," she said. "He turns darkness to light. He's a man that had the fear of God."

Sunday Enilolobo was shot early Sunday morning inside his taxicab at a gas station on the North Freeway at Airtex Drive.

The husband and father was able to drive 4.5 miles from the shooting scene, where he was found by a passer-by. He later died. His wife received the call from his company a few hours later.

"'This is us from Yellow Cab. We're sorry to let you know yesterday there was an attempted robbery that he was murdered,'" she recalls the cab company saying to her. "That was so horrible to hear. It's like I screamed my head off."

Police say 31-year-old Autuan Knox and 25-year-old Kandis Boone are responsible for Sunday's death.

Prosecutors charged them both with capital murder. No motive has been given as of yet, but Sunday Enilolobo's widow wants to know the reason her husband's life was taken.

"Why? Why? That's all I need to know," she said. "Why? What reason? They took life, for what reason? If they can tell me why, why?"

Knox and Boone are both scheduled to appear in court tomorrow.

In the meantime, Enilolobo's family has set up a GoFundMe account to help with funeral costs.
