HOUSTON – Miami Heat star Justise Winslow returned to Houston over the weekend to host his first invitational clinic at his alma mater, St. John's High School. Around 50 kids were in attendance for the two-day camp.
With one NBA season under his belt, Winslow, 20, wasted no time coming home to give back to the community he loves.
"This is what it is all about: giving back. For me, it is something I have always wanted to do so now that I have the platform to do it, I'm just trying to have fun with the kids," he said.
As part of the registration process, the kids were required to write an essay about how they would change the world.
"It was pretty intertesting to read. Their ideas and just the simplicity of how they think the world should work and how it should work really," Winslow said.
Year one of the clinic was a hit, and Winslow expects it to be an annual event.
"There is many more to come but this has been the first and it is a great time," he said.
Winslow's love for the city of Houston shines bright in his passion to give back to the kids.
"This is a sense of home, a sense of community and a place that is really close in my heart. I felt what better place than the one that made me into who I am today and that's St. Johns School in Houston, Texas," he said.
