SAN JOSE, Calif. – It's been touted as the hardest team in the world to make.
Now five of the world's best female gymnasts are heading to Rio for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
There were some sure things and a few surprises as the Olympic Selection Committee chose the five lucky women for Team USA.
The committee took 18 long minutes behind closed doors, weighing the pros and cons before deciding who would give our country the best shot at a gold medal.
Spring's Simone Biles won the all-around women's gymnastics trials by just more than two full points.
Biles hung onto first place despite a fall on beam both nights, something the perfectionist is quick to point out.
She said, "It's kind of disappointing that I got out there both days and did those beam routines, but it just motivates me to work even harder under pressure."
Laurie Hernandez, 16, was a surefire crowd pleaser, came in second, exuding personality and precision.
It was all business for Aly Raisman, who secured her second consecutive Olympic bid.
Madison Kocian of Dallas made the team despite an eighth place finish at trials.
Gabby Douglas, the all-around champ from the 2012 Games, gets a second chance to go for gold.
The selection committee decided to add her to the roster, pulling her up from a seventh place finish.
With the team finalized, Biles said it's now back to the gym to get ready for the games.
She said, "I think we can all get better and we're in very good physical shape, but mentally you can always be stronger."
Biles said she will get a few days to come back home and rest before a 10-day Olympic camp, then it's on to Rio.
