The new color-coded icons will indicate if a bayou or creek is close to rise out of its banks, or out of its banks.

The green squares are the default icon, meaning the bayous/creeks are still in their banks. The yellow triangles mean water is dangerously close to the edge of the banks, within three feet of going over.

When it turns to a red circle, the water is at capacity or out of its banks.

If there's a red circle, residents are urged to remain in their homes and to avoid travel until the water levels are back within the banks.

The map is real time and does not forecast flood levels.

If you want to check the current bayou levels in Harris County, just head to the flood warning system website.
