TRINITY COUNTY – Rescue workers are wading through homes in Trinity County, trying to help people get out, according to Sheriff Woody Wallace.
He’s been briefing residents on his official Facebook Page about some precarious situations brought on by the intense rainfall overnight and into the day Thursday.

“We have breaker boxes that are bobbling, just right at the water’s edge and people are standing in this water and this is fixin’ to be a dangerous situation, so anybody in these subdivisions, if you have power in your house, if you have water in your house, don’t start plugging and unplugging stuff. Stay away from the power as much as you can. If you can, shut your breakers off.”
He warned people not to handle the electricity themselves, the county is working on getting Entergy out to help with storm-related power problems in the area.
Right in the middle of his cautionary advice, the Sheriff wades over to find a tiny baby animal about to drown in the high water.
“We got us a little feller right there floatin’ in the grass,” Wallace says. “Alright, good deed for the day. I don’t know if it’s a rat or what it is.”
The rescue infused some hope into an otherwise grinding day and Sheriff Wallace got a lot of grateful comments from residents, a few of whom said it was a baby squirrel.
“So shines a good deed in a weary world,” said SJ Shuffield.
It’s a double-whammy for the Trinity County area.
The week started with an EF-1 tornado that obliterated a trailer, pinning a Conroe lieutenant underneath and throwing his wife out into a field.
Several other residents had a lot of tree damage and some property damage.
