READ PLEASE: 3 important deadlines for derecho and Beryl storm victims

September 3, September 9 and October 21 deadlines for property tax relief and unemployment assistance

If you had property damage from the May derecho or Hurricane Beryl, or lost income because of Beryl, there are three important deadlines to apply for relief.

SEPTEMBER 3

To qualify:

  • You own the property and you had damage to at least 15 percent of the value of your property.
  • Your property is in an area Governor Greg Abbott declared a disaster.

Hurricane Beryl disaster unemployment assistance deadline

SEPTEMBER 9

Workers and self-employed individuals in Austin, Bowie, Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Orange, Polk, San Jacinto, Shelby, Trinity, Walker, Waller, and Wharton Counties who were unable to work due to damage sustained from Hurricane Beryl may be eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance benefits through the Texas Workforce Commission.

To qualify:

  • You’ve applied for and used all regular unemployment benefits, or do not qualify for unemployment benefits.
  • You were scheduled to begin work or self-employment in the disaster area.
  • You can no longer work or perform services because of physical damage or destruction to the place of employment as a direct result of the disaster.
  • Establish that the work or self-employment you can no longer perform was their primary source of income.
  • You cannot perform work or self-employment because of an injury as a direct result of the disaster.
  • You became the breadwinner or major support of a household because of the death of the head of household.
  • You were unable to get to your job or self-employment location because you would have had to travel through the affected area and were prevented from doing so by the disaster.

IMPT: If you qualify, get your application in by the deadline. After that, you have three weeks to get all the documentation needed. That would include your Social Security number, and documentation to support that you were working or self-employed when the disaster occurred or were about to start work or self-employment and could not do so due to the disaster.

To qualify:
