HOUSTON – Galveston County voters will soon decide on their next sheriff in a closely watched race scheduled for Nov. 5, 2024.
Voters will choose between Republican Jimmy Fullen and Democrat Mark A. Salinas, both vying to succeed outgoing Sheriff Henry A. Trochesset, who opted not to seek re-election.
Fullen, who won his party’s primary earlier this year, faces ongoing scrutiny. The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) is investigating Fullen over allegations regarding his past work history and claims of undisclosed employment issues, including disciplinary actions and past legal entanglements. Despite these allegations, Fullen maintains significant endorsements, including those from high-profile Texas officials like Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and State Sen. Mayes Middleton.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day.
