HOUSTON, Texas – Houston singer and "The Voice" contestant Stephanie Rice has chosen to be on Gwen Stefani's team after giving a stirring rendition of Kelly Clarkson's "Piece by Piece" on Monday's competition.
Rice, 27, said she grew up in a religious household. On Monday's episode of "The Voice," she talked about how her parents disowned her when she came out as gay. Rice said she channeled the brokenness and emotion into her music.

Rice's performance moved "The Voice" coaches Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton. Rice was 20 seconds into her performance when Shelton turned around. Ten seconds later, Stefani also turned around. Rice chose to be on Stefani's team.
Rice's performance also received praise from Kelly Clarkson, who posted on Twitter: "Can't. Stop. Crying."
"The Voice" airs on NBC.
