Nintendo fans got a sneak peek of the upcoming anticipated “Super Mario Bros. Movie on Thursday, and the reception was overwhelmingly positive.
In a video, dubbed “Nintendo Direct,” video game director and designer Shigeru Miyamoto said Nintendo worked with Illumination Studios to bring a new animated movie celebrating the world’s most beloved video game character.

The movie is expected to bring an all-star cast -- with actor Chris Pratt lending his voice as “Mario” and Jack Black starring as Mario’s enemy “Bowser.” Other stars include comedian Sebastian Maniscalco, Anya Taylor-Joy and Keegan Michael-Key.
“Man, I spent hours stomping ‘Koopas’ in the original arcade game at my local laundromat,” Pratt said during the video. “It is an honor to speak to [Miyamoto] who created those memories for me, and it is an honor to work alongside him. It’s a lifelong dream.”
Miyamoto said last year that he was part of the creative side of the movie. He also enlisted Charles Martinet, the original video game voice of “Mario” to his creative team where he will be providing some “surprising” cameos.
“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” is set to release in theaters April 6, 2023.
