HOUSTON – Are you having a hard time sticking to your New Year’s resolutions? Are you trying to figure out how to get back to them? The answer may really surprise you.
According to one author, it’s not about working harder. It’s actually about tapping into your laziness.
If you are losing steam on your New Year’s resolutions, you are not alone. Many people lose sight of their goals and give up altogether.
“And surprisingly, it’s because you’re lazy,” says Bulletproof Coffee creator and Upgrade Labs CEO, Dave Asprey.
And that’s not an insult to anyone, it’s part of our D.N.A.
“Your laziness is built into yourselves to keep your body from running out of energy. The trick to sticking with your resolution is to actually harness the laziness,” says Asprey.
Asprey tells KPRC 2 that one “Biohack” is doing something else in place of that super long exercise session.
“I teach people how to do exercise and other things that work way better than they’re supposed to, so you can say I saved 40 minutes by not doing this spin class because I did this other thing that gave me the same results,” says Asprey.
This will give you more time to spend doing what you really want, which will help reduce your stress levels.
“We are spending a huge amount of time doing things that don’t work very well and then feeling guilty that we didn’t do more of that,” adds Asprey.
With biohacking, Asprey says there are things that just work way better, way faster.
“You can start at the gym or at home, and even how you lift, it turns out if you slowly lower the weights you put muscle on more quickly,” says Asprey.
He says if you do things differently, like isometrics and resistance bands, you can put on muscle three or even five times faster than you could at the gym.
When it comes to eating healthier, Asprey doesn’t recommend the popular vegan diet.
“There are two supplements I write about in “Smarter Not Harder” that everyone is missing. One of them is minerals. Exercise doesn’t work, thinking doesn’t work, nothing works without minerals. And plant-based diets steal minerals from your bones and tissues. You can also take something called vitamin D.A.K.E. Those are fat-soluble vitamins. If you just did two vitamins every day, take fat-soluble, take minerals, everything in your life works better,” says Asprey.
Another tip to help keep your goals is to change your mindset. You don’t need to work harder to get it.
“We’re all working too hard already, we’re all over-stressed and some of us that do exercise every day are over-trained,” says Asprey.
Dave Asprey’s new book is called Smarter Not Harder.
