‘Contemporary luxury’ and a ‘house party’ in a dining room | Memorable meals await at these neighborhood restaurants

Chris Shepherd heads to Bludorn and Nobie’s in this episode of ‘Eat Like a Local’

Nestled in many of Houston’s neighborhoods are unique and delicious restaurants. In this episode of “Eat Like a Local with Chris Shepherd”, Shepherd visits two spots that are doing things in their own distinct and memorable ways.

First up, Shepherd headed to Bludorn in Montrose to chat with Aaron Bludorn, along with the restaurant’s director of operations Cherif Mbodji.

Bludorn said “contemporary luxury” is what they have created. The menu includes, but is not limited to, seasonally rotating dishes focused on New American, French-inspired fare. One popular dish is inspired by Mbodji’s home country of Senegal.

Shepherd also visited with executive pastry chef Marie Riddle about the luxurious desserts she’s creating at Bludorn.

Shepherd also sat down with Martin and Sara Stayer who are doing things in their own unique way at Nobie’s.

“We like to think of the dining room as a house party and we are super excited for you to join us in our living room! We spin vinyl all day every day,” they wrote on their website.

Nobie’s, which was named for Martin Stayer’s grandmother, has a constantly evolving menu of 20 - 25 items, with only a handful of staples.

The menu is filled with puns and the food is filled with freshness and flavor. One dessert item you’re guaranteed to find on the menu whenever you go is the olive oil cake, which Shepherd said is the best olive oil cake he’s ever had.
