KPRC 2 Insiders, Scroll down to see the finished painting and to enter the Crawfish Fest Art sweepstakes for a chance to win it.
It started with a lighthearted comment at a conference room table. KPRC 2′s general manager Phil Lane asked how he could be of most help at Crawfish Fest. Knowing he’s an artist, someone suggested he do face painting.
Without missing a beat, Lane said could paint something... and that’s how plans came together for him to create a piece of crawfish art at KPRC 2′s Eat Like a Local Crawfish Fest at Discovery Green.
Lane has two pieces of fish art in his office that he painted and has been known to sketch in various settings, but he’s never drawn or painted a crawfish before.
For some added fun, Lane said he would set up his art supplies in the middle of the park and get children who were attending to help fill in the canvas.
There was no telling how the art would turn out, but we knew it was guaranteed to be one-of-a-kind!
The completed canvas
Lane prepped a canvas by sketching a crawfish and then placing tape over the crustacean. At the festival downtown Saturday, children used brushes and their hands to fill the background of the canvas with blues and greens. From there, Lane peeled off the tape and got to work painting the crawfish.
