FARM TO TABLE: Where Houston restaurants get the most fresh and flavorful produce

Chris Shepherd visits a local produce farm, farmer’s market, and restaurant in the premiere of Season 2 of ‘Eat Like a Local’

Eating like a local for Chris Shepherd often begins with finding food being grown by locals.

In this episode of “Eat Like a Local with Chris Shepherd”, headed to Spring to meet the family behind Atkinson Farms. Bobby Atkinson is a fourth-generation farmer and gave Shepherd a tour of his family’s 100-acre fruit and vegetable farm.

Atkinson explained how the farm has grown to be a key supplier for farmers markets and local restaurants. Families can also shop their farmstand in Spring or exploring their pick your own berry fields.

Some of the Atkinson Farms produce is used at Local Foods, which now has four Houston locations. Local Foods is where chef-partner Dylan Murray creates a seasonal menu sourced from local producers to create some of the freshest, tastiest food around.

Atkinson Farms is also among Shepherd’s favorite stops at Urban Harvest Farmers Market. At the market held each Saturday, people can shop dozens of local vendors who all make, produce, or farm within 180 miles of Houston.
