From breakfast to dessert, these places are serving delicious meals for any time of day

In this episode of “Eat Like a Local”, chef Chris Shepherd enlists the help of Abbas Dhanani, owner of Burger Bodega, as his guide to Houston’s Pakistani food community.

Bismillah Restaurant & Cafe

5696 Hillcroft St. | Houston

The pair start the day at Bismillah, a mainstay in the Pakistani community for over 30 years. Here, Abbas introduces Chris to a classic Pakistani breakfast called Anda Qeema Paratha. Abbas shows Chris the proper way to eat the omelet-beef-bread combo before moving on to what Abbas deems the best biryani in the city.

Aga’s Restaurant & Catering

11842 Wilcrest Dr. | Houston

Abbas then takes Chris to one of the busiest and most famous Pakistani restaurants in the country, Aga’s.

At Aga’s the goat chops are a must, they sell thousands a week, but Chris also tries karahi and nihari, a slow braised beef stew he says deserves to have its own special moment.

Then, it’s on to dessert. Chris tries an Aga’s specialty, mithai chaat - a carrot-cake like sweet mixed with chunks of gulab jamun.

Aga’s can serve up to 4,000 customers in a single day through its large dining room and advanced take-out ordering system.
