HOUSTON – She has been declared one of the sexiest women alive, but even Scarlett Johansson struggles with cellulite.
Plastic surgeon Dr. Jacob Steiger says cellulite is common.
“It's more normal to have cellulite than to not have cellulite,” Steiger said.
Steiger is working with a new approach to eliminate one type of cellulite in just one treatment.
The procedure uses a device called Cellfina. It treats the primary structural cause of cellulite, which is dimpling in the thighs and rear.
“Cellulite is actually fibrous bands under the skin that are pulling the skin down, that's what causes it,” Steiger explained.
The areas of concern are marked and numbed. Then Steiger puts the Cellfina system to work.
“Cellfina is a device that can very predictably and reliably take those bands and cut them at a very precise depth,” Steiger added.
The skin is actually pulled into a suction cup like device. Needles are then guided through the cup to cut the fibrous bands.
“When you look at the procedure it makes total sense, it's not topical, it gets right in there," Steiger said.
The procedure takes about an hour and results are immediate.
Patient Jody Goldberg was awake and comfortable through the entire process.
“I embrace plastic surgery, when needed,” she said.
In clinical studies, 96 percent of patients saw improvement and actually thought the results got better with time. The cost is about $5,000, but remember, you only need one treatment.
