HOUSTON – Hi everyone! Another Wine Club Wednesday Poured by H‑E‑B is in the books!
It’s Derrick, here! Today we’re featuring two delicious wines from Willamette Valley, Oregon. According to our experts at H‑E‑B, wines from the Willamette Valley are considered some of the best Pinot Noirs in the world. Additionally, Pinot Noir is such a versatile grape it can be paired with all kinds of food. Pro tip: Pinot Noirs are often paired with Thanksgiving dinners because there are so many different types of dishes on the table.
Many folks might assume any wine derived from a Pinot grape would be red, but imagine this: when you bite into a red grape the flesh is a light color. The red part is only found in the skin. So winemakers can decide how long to leave the skin in contact with the juice and therefore determine the color of the finished product. So with that in mind, we’re exploring a rosé of Pinot Noir from Westmount. You might notice hints of strawberry, white peach and orange blossom on the nose but this is definitely a dry rosé – not sweet. The price? $18.
Another Williamette Valley wine worth tasting is the Planet Oregon 100% Pinot Noir. Sustainably farmed, this wine has bright cherry and raspberry flavors and has notes of spice on the finish. This wine is so delicious it even caught the attention of the judges at Houston’s Rodeo Uncorked Competition. When you buy this bottle, priced at $22, you’re also giving back; a portion of the profits from the sale of Planet Oregon wines are donated to the Oregon Environmental Council.
