Let’s raise those glasses… it’s Wine Club Wednesday Poured by H‑E‑B! This is the midweek pick me up that I needed. On the show Derrick and I tasted two Cabernets that are both under $20.
First, from Columbia Valley, Washington is Christopher Michael Cabernet named for the two brothers that founded the label, Eric Christopher and Ryan Michael Harms. This is great wine to drink now! The cooler than average growing season produced a surprisingly complex wine for the $15 price point. You’ll notice hints of dark cocoa, raspberry and currant.
Fun fact, all Christopher Michael wines are gluten free and vegan friendly. The label is part of the 1% for the Planet Nonprofit Network, all members donate 1% of their annual profits to environmental causes.
Our second cab comes from one of my parts of California, the Lodi region which is about 60 miles east of San Francisco. This area is known for dramatic temperature swings from day to night, sometimes dropping to 40 degrees. This actually helps the structure and flavor of the wine.
Lodi Estates Cabernet Sauvignon is $17 bottle it’s great to drink now but you can also store this one and let it age for 5-10 years. This ripe and intense cab also has notes of mocha, blueberry, raspberry and vanilla. Think pairing this with beef or lamb.
