June is Caribbean American Heritage Month and there are ways you and your family can experience the sounds and flavors of island life in Houston.
The Bayou City is known as a melting pot of proud ethnic communities, including residents that hail from the 26 island countries that make up the Caribbean -- from Trinidad Tobago, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, St. Lucia and many others.

According to the Caribbean American Heritage Foundation of Texas more than 200,000 Caribbean Americans reside in Houston and that number continues to grow bringing the island vibes to areas like the third and fifth wards and stretching into Fort Bend County.
