HOUSTON – Isaac Yowman is a young African American Director taking the film industry by storm. He joined Houston Life today to discuss his most recent project, directing the documentary ‘Memory Builds The Monument,’ streaming now on BET+.
The film is inspired by Houston’s iconic club matinee in the historic 5th Ward. Musical legends like Ray Charles, James Brown and Aretha Franklin have performed there!
When landing the role as Director, Isaac says it wasn’t a quick and easy process. While in the film festival circuit, the documentary was nominated for an NAACP Image Award, and that nomination was where it all began. Isaac gives thanks to Paramount and BET+ for believing in him as a young black Director and wanting to get the film out to the world.
Filmmaking takes time, as individuals spend periods working hard creating films and submitting them to festivals, hoping to get their work seen by major companies. He’s thrilled that this beautiful form of art in filmmaking is available for the public to see.
Isaac has a private screening coming up in Atlanta, and did his first here in Houston last week showcasing the documentary ‘Memory Builds The Monument.’
He’s opened up an art exhibit downtown at 1201 Main Street. It’s a modern art gallery running through Black History Month and March celebrating the entire film.
Admission is free and donations are accepted!
