HOUSTON – It’s a local production bringing 50′s and 60′s hits, lots of heart, and even bigger hair!
Drag Wonderettes, playing now at Stages, is a re-imagining of the jukebox musical comedy ‘The Marvelous Wonderettes’ celebrating friendship, love, and music in a whole new way.
The show stars Austin Colburn, Marco Camacho, and Mark Ivy - the Drag Wonderettes, who joined Houston Life for an interview and performance.
About The Show
- A new twist on the off-broadway smash The Marvelous Wonderettes, re-imagined as a high-drag performance
- You’ll hear the same ‘50s and ‘60s songs from the original show like “Stupid Cupid,” “Lollipop,” and “It’s My Party” and get a whole new view of how friendship can be truly marvelous.
- These queens are bringing a whole new level of fabulous to the stage!
- Playwright by Roger Bean and directed by Mitchell Greco.
- The performers in Drag Wonderettes portray drag artists who are part of “The House of Amandas,” and the show as a whole honors drag as an art form, but you don’t have to be familiar with drag to appreciate the story of friendship.

About The Actors
Austin Colburn, as Cindy Lou
- He has performed at TUTS and in other regional shows. This is his debut at Stages
- Better known in the Houston drag scene as Barbra Q. Chyppes, Austin has been a performing drag artist for a year outside his acting work.
Marco Camacho- Betty Jean
-He’s a veteran of the local theater scene and has worked at TUTS, Alley Theatre and Main Street Theatre, and Queensbury Theatre where he played Buddy in Elf the Musical.
Mark Ivy - as Suzy
- He has been on TUTS productions Seussical (Horton), All Shook Up (Dennis), Little Shop of Horrors (Seymour)
- Mr. Ivy was also in Beyoncé's music video for ‘Blow’. BFA in musical theatre from SHSU. Humphrey’s School of musical theatre alumnus.
